Step Up for Families Caring For Children With Special Needs

There are families in Illinois who could benefit from Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy but their insurance companies do not cover the service. We are not asking for money to be spent, but rather a choice in therapies. Contact your elected officials and ask for their support.

To find your State Officials go to this website: http://www.elections.il.gov/districtlocator/districtofficialsearchbyaddress.aspx

If you want some help with what to say you can copy and paste this letter then send it to their office or email.

Dear (Rep, Senator, Governor etc) ,

I am asking for your support for the passage of legislation that would allow parents of children with Autism the choice to use Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy (ABA Therapy). ABA should be covered by insurance companies, regardless of where the policy originates. Currently, out of state and federal insurance is exempt from helping people in Illinois. This would not require insurance companies to provide more therapy, but simply give more choice of treatment for families dealing with Autism and other developmental disorders.

For some individuals, ABA therapy is more directly impactful than occupational or speech therapy. With greater insurance flexibility, families budgeting their time and treatment options may select this over other therapies. Such therapy can offer a path to independence that would alleviate the need for full state support in adulthood.

Thank you for your consideration of this important matter.

Sincerely,
